Taking Your Computer Farther

Computers are incredible things. While they are technically hardware, you can do a whole lot more with them than you can with anything else. Just imagine how difficult it would be to use your car to build a spreadsheet, code up a website, monitor a network, code up a new level for the latest first person shooting game and create a logo that will fly over a major company.Unless you are using a car that has a computer in it (like KITT from Knight Rider), this is just not going to happen. But imagine how great it would be to have one of those jobs, designing things on the computer which everybody else has the luxury of taking for granted. Now there is a group of fun jobs that pay you what you are worth.

For example, you can work in business information systems, where you can keep a company’s entire intranet operating smoothly. Trillions of dollars worth of transactions and the careers of thousands of people can hinge on your ability to keep things running well, fend off hackers, and make the improvements that most people are never even going to know about. If you have ever wanted to be a James Bond villain without being in danger from 007, this is the kind of career you might seriously consider.

Or maybe you would like to design games. While everybody knows about game design, they do not know how many components go into a game. There are characters, level design, texture design, and a wide range of other factors. Do you want to help people repeatedly kill their friends, all while taunting them? If so, this could be your career. But how will you do this? You can’t just walk in and say, “Yeah, I want to design games. Give me a job.” You can find degree programs for that at earnmydegree.com, though. Those programs will help you to take your computer farther.
